Beautiful Maui Wedding Invitation with Belluccia Font

Loved finding this  Style Me Pretty post with an invitation featuring my cursive font, Belluccia.  It was designed by  Bradley and Lily Fine Stationery.  This beautiful wedding took place in the breathtaking Maui countryside.  The gorgeous photography was done by  Christie Pham Photography . ( Sorry the link to her website seems to be having problems.)

“Taking inspiration from the location, the bride  defined her wedding style as upcountry elegance. To set the stage, she commissioned an illustration of the vine-covered arch that would welcome the guests to the ceremony and would also serve as a symbol of their new life together. The illustration was letterpressed onto a wood veneer band and  wrapped around their crisp, navy and cream suite of letterpress wedding stationery.  At the wedding, the mix of exposed rustic wood tables, lace runners and burlap combined with elegant and lush florals  created a graceful and welcoming balance. Guests were guided into the reception along a log path which revealed the setting and a spectacular view overlooking the Maui countryside and ocean beyond.

Creative DIY Save the Date

You may remember the modern chevron designed wedding invitation that I posted previously.  Well when I saw the Save the Date that had been sent for the same wedding, I thought it was such a darling idea I asked the bride if I could post it.

She was more than happy to share.

Taylor, the bride, found an old window pane and lettered “Save The Date” in the top three panes.  This can be done with either a chalk marker or acrylic paint.  She used the bottom three windows to put the numerical date.  The numbers are cut out and backed with newspaper to go along with the rustic feel.

They found a great weathered red barn as a backdrop.  A picture was snapped.  They selected a casual font (available where they had the pictures printed) and then used the 4″ x 6″ pics as the actual Save the Date.  Though they used white envelopes, another option would be to use red, blue or spring green.  Then use a gel pen in a contrasting color to address them.

This is a great example of a creative invitation that is economical too!

Way to go Taylor!  And Happy Wedding to you, Jacob and your families.

Medical School Graduation Party Invites

A favorite client of mine who loves to throw festive parties asked me to design a unique invitation for her son’s medical school graduation.  She’s seen pics of some of the boxed invites on this blog and was interested in having me create something similar.

She found a bottled prescription invitation online that she wanted to include. After a few measurements, it was determined that a cookie from It’s a Mary Cake would be the perfect accompaniment — in the shape of a medical scrub no less!  Yellow shredded paper padded the box and kept the cookie from breaking.

To stay on theme, I hand painted the box with a stethoscope that curved around the edges and ended up appropriately with a heart. I then hand lettered the mailing addresses in dark blue to match the theme.

The ‘prescriptions’  from Hello Cupcake added a special touch and included a list of side effects:  continuous laughter, excessive smiling and wonderful memories.  How cute is that?

Sweet Calligraphy Wedding Invitation

I recently had the pleasure of working with a darling bride.  She wanted a unique wedding invitation for their small, intimate wedding.  Her young daughters were going to be a part of the ceremony with a small gathering of family and friends in her home. She wanted  the sweet nature of the ceremony reflected in the invitation that was to be hand delivered to each guest.wedding invitation, unique invitation, calligraphy, hand lettering, water color illustration, wedding calligraphy, boxed invitation

I chose a craft covered box over-layed with fabric lace and a beautiful shade of dusty rose ribbon. Her florist created a live flower boutonniere that was attached to the package before delivery.

It was an honor to not only work with her to design the look of the invitation but to create the wording as well.  Since it was all about home and family, I thought it fitting that the first thing the guest saw when they opened the box, were the words “Home is where the heart is.”  These were hand lettered on Arches 140 lb. paper to match the invitation, trimmed with more of the rose ribbon and secured to the inside of the lid.  A beautiful lace trimmed handkerchief  monogrammed with the letter of the guests last name was attached to the front.  ( Wish I had a pic of this!) A blush pink tag with the guests first name/s was then attached to the hankie.

To complete the suite, an RSVP card, also hand lettered, was tied with matching rose ribbon to a hand made envelope ( I now know how to make envelope glue!).  A custom stamp from zazzle.com featured a pic of the house.  To add to the detail, the envelopes were hand addressed on the front and each guest’s name and address were also hand lettered on the envelope flap.

I was thrilled to play a small part in setting the ambiance for this lovely ceremony.

Thanks so much and many blessings to Sally, Cavan and the girls!

Modern Calligraphy Wedding Invitation

I recently created this modern styled wedding invitation suite that was a fun change from my usual projects. I love the simplicity and clean lines of the chevron design.  The colors carried throughout the invitation were a lovely grey and bright yellow (the pictures from my camera appear more green).

Clear labels printed with the same chevron pattern were used for the mailing address.  The label had enough room for the return address and adds a nice design element to the envelope.  This is also a great alternative to hand lettering when you’re on a tight budget.

I chose a simple hand lettered look in all lower case to highlight the modern feel.  I love the contrast this creates when paired with the simple block font.

An RSVP postcard is another money saving option.  Not only do you eliminate the cost of an envelope, but the postal rate for postcards is less than for envelopes.

I was thrilled to work with my lovely Michigan bride to create this clean look.

Happy wedding Taylor and Jacob!

Lovely wedding dresses featured on Snippet and Ink

Snippet and Ink just posted these lovely pics of wedding gowns under $1000.   They used my cursive font, Belluccia, to denote the different styles.  Love it!

If I did a re-d0 wedding, the bottom left would be by choice.  As a short gal, you’ve got to show some leg to look taller:)

And if I were taller, one of these simple long dresses would be just lovely.  I could definitely see a bride wearing one of these in an outdoor wedding.

For the vintage look, how cute are these?  I think I’d opt for the upper left or lower right.

Calligraphy featured in Reverie Magazine Spring 2012

Reverie Spring Issue 2012

Rêverie Spring Issue 2012

This morning, I checked out the interview London based Rêverie magazine conducted with the incredibly talented scribe Paul Antonio. ( Pages 260-267)
His lettering is also included in the pics from the magazines launch party.  Drooled over the incredible mirrors!  (Pages 274-279)

His work is simply stunning!  His clients include the Royal Family and Stella McCartney.

I must say I was envious of all of the extensive study he’s had the opportunity to do including copying hieroglyphs in a pyramid in Egypt for the Metropolitan Museum of Art.  How fabulous it that!

Then I started flipping  through the pages of this beautiful online magazine.  Tastefully done and great “Lookbooks” of real weddings that you can download and print from their blog!
I was even more thrilled when I  came across several pages where my cursive font Belluccia was used.
Here’s a sample of one of the Lookbooks from a wedding fiesta that took place in Mexico.  My calligraphy font went perfectly with the flavor of the wedding!

Then on page 233-234 I saw a lovely invitation suite that was created by Kate of Coquette Paper & Press featuring Belluccia!  Love it!
Check it all out here:
Congrats to Mary and Kate, founders of Rêverie, on this spectacular issue!  And thanks for using Belluccia:)

Envelopements Save the Date with Calligraphy Font

Envelopments Save the Date featuring Belluccia font

I previously posted about the creative ways the Trellis Collection by Envelopments used my cursive font, Belluccia. And here’s a perfect example of a Save the Date created for real life bride and groom Katie and Pierce.

I just love the colors, layout and the way the names, in Belluccia, are angled and combined with the simpler block font.  The envelope uses the same two fonts and gorgeous color with matching stamp to boot.  This combo creates a good  balance between the flourished lines of the calligraphy font with the simpler lines of the block style.

This coordinated set was created by Samantha at Papyrus in Willowbend Mall in Plano, Texas.  Check out the whole Trellis Collection for more clever ideas.

All the best to the future Mr. and Mrs. Bradford!

Cursive font Belluccia on Wedding Invitation

Loved finding this wedding invitation created by Simply Luxe that features my cursive font Belluccia.  My favorite part is seeing how she used the specially designed “R” from an “RSVP” I created as a glyph then added the rest of the letters in lower case.  I also like the way the flourishes were used on either side of the word “to” as well as the choice of the “o” with the extended loop.  Minute details to some, but to me it’s all in the details!

When hand lettering won’t fit into your budget, my cursive font can also be used to address envelopes on the computer.  Simply Luxe made a great choice to keep the lettering on the envelope simple and clean by using the Standard version.  Belluccia Pro contains all four versions of the font meant for mixing and matching. Contextual, Swashes and Stylistic contain the more flourished versions of the letters.  So they are best intertwined with the Standard version to give a unique custom calligraphic look without being too much.  There is an art to creating that look and Simply Luxe did a great job with it.

New Lettering Art Studio logo design

Lettering Art Studio New Logo 2012

I’m very excited to present my new logo!  The old one needed updating and like the cobbler’s kids who often go without shoes, I’ve been so busy with projects it took awhile to get to do my own.  I’m very happy with the results.  I thought I’d share a little of the process with you.

New Lettering Art Studio Logo 2012 Stacked

First, I wanted the design to reflect the general style of my script hand lettering.  But I also included the word “ART” in Roman caps to emphasize the fact that I work in a variety of lettering styles.

Next I wanted the logo to have some connectivity between the three words for several reasons. First of all, lettering is an art.  It is a skill that takes time to master.  In addition, I am a lettering artist but I also do other things with pens and brushes and ink, such as line illustrations that are more easily recognized as “art”.  So connecting these three words was an important part of the process for me.

Hand Lettering for New Lettering Art Studio Logo 2012

So with all that in mind I created the the original artwork seen above in grayscale.  Now the question was how to make it pop with the use of color and other cool details.  This is when it’s important to know your limitations.  So I immediately called my friend Janell Wimberly who also happens to be one of the best logo designers I know.

I gave her the artwork and she did her magic adding drop shadows and highlights and repositioning the words so they could also be used in a horizontal format. ( for my new website soon to be launched!)

They only thing left to determine was the color.  Being a lover of trees, when I saw the charcoal green she had chosen, a visual immediately came to mind… the tree in my front yard.  (And any tree in spring that has that beautiful combination of bright green leaves against charcoal trunk and branches.)

It always refreshes and renews me.  So what better choice for my new logo!  After taking a pic, I realized the connecting lines of the script also mimic the way branches entwine.

So what do you think of my new look?
