The two rattles represent the twins  (a boy and a girl) that will be arriving soon:)

The precious rattle invitation is by Stevie Streck Designs. My part was to design, create and address all the boxes.

The rhinestone “B” is for the parents to be’s last name.

Each box was addressed in hand lettering with a “Once upon a time…” banner to reflect the theme.

Adding a touch of “stickles” gave it just enough sparkle.

Personalized tags (in my Dom Loves Mary font and Belluccia font borders) let the guests know that a donation was being made “in honor of our guests and our little ones” to the Genesis Women’s Shelter.

What a lovely gesture by the hostess!

UPDATE

I have received many calls and e-mails from people interested in having me create these invitations for them.

This is an extremely labor intensive project.

Since I am focusing more on font design, I’m not taking on large projects like this.

I’d be happy to instruct you on how to make the decorated boxes yourself, if you are so inclined.

The boxes came from Uline. The material can be purchased at any fabric store.

The ribbon and rhinestone letter came from Hobby Lobby.

Please note, I did not create the invitation.  It was ordered by the client from Beeyond Paper

The double rattle invitation pictured above is no longer available.

The single rattle is available. So you could order both blue and pink and put them together in the box.

Hope this helps!

Still have my nose to the light table creating my new calligraphy font.

Big Top Circus themed wedding invitation

I love all the unique wedding themes that brides come up with.  And I’m impressed when a designer makes it a reality in such a creative way.  Remember the Cinderella themed invitation?

big top themed wedding invitation, circus themed wedding invitation, wedding invitationThe same designer, Beverly Verbeke, tackles this “Big Top Circus” theme with the same sense of style .  The Save the Date postcard is bursting with pizzazz.  From the color combination to the choice of borders and the collection of fonts and ornaments. It all works together perfectly. Love the show horses!

The invitation suite continues the theme beautifully with so much great detail.  Everything is unique!

The invitation size, the colorful purple envelope, the address label, coordinated graphics and fonts are all put together by a seasoned professional.

I love to see how she used my calligraphy font, Belluccia, in just the right amount as an accent.

Note the great detail in the address label that is designed to wrap around the envelope so the return address, with the cool elephant design, will appear on the back.

Last, but not least, is the tear off ticket RSVP.  How cool is that?  The other half leaves you with the necessary information.  An example of great design and function put together.  The  gold envelope further allows the other colors pop.

Got a themed event or marketing promotion that needs a “wow” design?

If you can dream it, Bev can theme it!

Cruise themed invitation

How fun is this ??…an invitation to spend a weekend on a private yacht bound for Exuma, an island in the Bahamas.  Oh and you’ll be going to your yacht’s destination by private jet.  Yes, I think I’d be accepting the invitation that five lucky couples received by hand delivery last week.

Once again I had the opportunity to work with the always clever and creative Mary Frances Hurt and Mindy Rives of DFW Events to help create these 3 D invites.  When I see their names on the caller ID, I know it’s going to be a fun project.

For my part, I hand lettered “EXUMA BOUND” on the masks that were placed in the treasure chest.  I also created the background printed piece that fit inside the top of the lid.  Barbie and Ken, anxious to “bust out” of their confined spaces, decide on a quick trip to the Bahamas.  Oh if real life were only that easy:)

Any fun plans for the summer?

Do share in the comments !

Best,

Debi

Beautiful Wine Label design

It would be really cool to one day design a wine label like many lettering artist’s I know.  But in the meantime, I’m just as excited to see my cursive font, Belluccia used as a part of this one. “Drink Me”…  Well if you insist:)

It was designed by Stranger and Stranger, a package design and branding company specializing in alcoholic drinks.  You should check out their other designs they’ve created…they are so creative.calligraphy font, belluccia, wine bottle with callligraphyLove the concept of the additional tag.

calligraphy font, belluccia, wine bottle with callligraphy

It was recently featured on the The Dieline blog.  Here’s what they had to say about the wine: “Bewitched is a dark rich Californian red wine. The name is so good that you don’t need to do too much apart from making it dark and sexy. The reserve level is screened matt back onto the bottle.”

Here’s a view of the whole bottle. Beautiful bottle, beautiful wine… I’ll drink to that!

Medical School Graduation Party Decor

Medical School Graduation Party, Lettering Art Studio, creative invitation

About a month ago I showed you these unique invitations I designed for a Medical School Graduation.  Now I am excited to show you the various things I created for the graduation weekend festivities.

Medical School Graduation Party, Lettering Art Studio, creative invitationThis adorable picture of the graduate, playing doctor as a child, appropriately announces “The Doctor will see you now”.  How cute is he!

Medical School Graduation Party, Lettering Art Studio, creative invitationI designed the dinner menu and favor tag with the same cute picture.  Guests were given an apple as a favor with a tag saying “An apple a day keeps the Doctor away!”.  Good advice!

Medical School Graduation Party, Lettering Art Studio, creative invitationA current day picture of the graduate (even cuter still :P) in his doctor finery was used for the cover of the weekend’s itinerary. I also printed guest’s names onto these tent name cards.

I designed the itinerary to look like a medical chart, so the pages flipped up instead of across. Doctor related illustrations decorated the schedule and added a whimsical design.

The itinerary was included in the out of town guest bags along with typical goodies.  I created a crisp white label with text in matching blue and a yellow border. (See pic at top)

I love when I have the opportunity to create unique touches for client’s events.  I created a special personalized Christmas ornament to commemorate this wonderful achievement.  I enjoyed every step of this project and hope the weekend went fabulously!

Congratulations Doctor Alex!

Just a quick note to let you know that my new website and blog will be going live soon!  ( in a matter of days)  Stay tuned.

Bachelorette Beach Party Invite

Who doesn’t love to get a cookie in the mail?  Once more, I had the pleasure of surprising 10 lovely girls with a boxed cookie invite!

I designed these colorful bikini themed bachelorette party invitations that I am thrilled to share with you.

calligraphy, bachelorette invitations, boxed invitations, hand lettering, brush lettering

These boxed invites are meant to get the party started for a girl’s weekend in Port Aransas, Texas.  So,  I wanted the bright colors and lettering to reflect all the promised beach fun.

calligraphy, bachelorette invitations, boxed invitations, hand lettering, brush lettering, bikini cookie, bathing suit cookie

I drew inspiration from the fun colors of summer and used a rainbow chevron fabric and yellow shredded paper to decorate the box.  Inside the package was the invite card featuring the fun font Alana Pro by Laura Worthington and the yummy bikini cookie from It’s a Mary Cake.

The bikini colors are some of the bride- to-be’s favorites.  As for the tan, it’s definitely not a spray on! 🙂

For the invitation, I used the same rainbow pattern on the bikini illustration and added a wave detail at the bottom.

The back of the invite holds information about the lingerie party on Saturday night.  How fun!

Monica, the lovely hostess, was very happy with how these turned out.  I hope the fun, bright colors get the invitees in a summer mood as well.

Happy wedding Alex and have a fabulous time at the beach!

Medical School Graduation Party Invites

A favorite client of mine who loves to throw festive parties asked me to design a unique invitation for her son’s medical school graduation.  She’s seen pics of some of the boxed invites on this blog and was interested in having me create something similar.

She found a bottled prescription invitation online that she wanted to include. After a few measurements, it was determined that a cookie from It’s a Mary Cake would be the perfect accompaniment — in the shape of a medical scrub no less!  Yellow shredded paper padded the box and kept the cookie from breaking.

To stay on theme, I hand painted the box with a stethoscope that curved around the edges and ended up appropriately with a heart. I then hand lettered the mailing addresses in dark blue to match the theme.

The ‘prescriptions’  from Hello Cupcake added a special touch and included a list of side effects:  continuous laughter, excessive smiling and wonderful memories.  How cute is that?

Texas Tote for OOT Guest and Gift for Bridesmaids

Texas tote bag, OOT Bag idea, Texas Hand bag, Texas Purse, Lettering on Hand bagSpent a fun weekend with my two sisters and as usual, a trip to Sam Moon was in order.  If you don’t live in Texas and aren’t familiar with this “girl heaven” check out their online store.

While there, my younger sister, a true purse aficianado, found this darling patent leather Texas city themed tote for 10.99!  I think it would make a perfect Out of Town Guest bag for Texas brides.  It’s large enough to fit all the necessary items : water bottles, snack bars, local info, a wedding itinerary.  What a great gift for them to remember your wedding and the fabulous weekend!  You could also use it to present gifts to your bridesmaids. They could use it to keep essentials for the day of the wedding…makeup, jewelry, comfy shoes for dancing.  I tried to find it online but had no luck.  But if you live near any of these Texas cities; Dallas, Fort Worth, Frisco, Houston, Austin and the Woodlands, just check out your local Sam Moon!

Sweet Calligraphy Wedding Invitation

I recently had the pleasure of working with a darling bride.  She wanted a unique wedding invitation for their small, intimate wedding.  Her young daughters were going to be a part of the ceremony with a small gathering of family and friends in her home. She wanted  the sweet nature of the ceremony reflected in the invitation that was to be hand delivered to each guest.wedding invitation, unique invitation, calligraphy, hand lettering, water color illustration, wedding calligraphy, boxed invitation

I chose a craft covered box over-layed with fabric lace and a beautiful shade of dusty rose ribbon. Her florist created a live flower boutonniere that was attached to the package before delivery.

It was an honor to not only work with her to design the look of the invitation but to create the wording as well.  Since it was all about home and family, I thought it fitting that the first thing the guest saw when they opened the box, were the words “Home is where the heart is.”  These were hand lettered on Arches 140 lb. paper to match the invitation, trimmed with more of the rose ribbon and secured to the inside of the lid.  A beautiful lace trimmed handkerchief  monogrammed with the letter of the guests last name was attached to the front.  ( Wish I had a pic of this!) A blush pink tag with the guests first name/s was then attached to the hankie.

wedding invitation, unique invitation, calligraphy, hand lettering, water color illustration, wedding calligraphy, boxed invitationThe front and back cover of the accordian style invitation was created using Stardream shimmer cardstock in cappaccino.   Releasing the ribbon tied around the invitation, the guest was soon gazing at a watercolor illustration of the brides home where the wedding was to take place.  The lovely black and white ink drawing she provided was first printed on the invitation then hand painted by me.  The entirety of the invitation wording was hand lettered in a custom look to fit the  sweet occasion.

To complete the suite, an RSVP card, also hand lettered, was tied with matching rose ribbon to a hand made envelope ( I now know how to make envelope glue!).  A custom stamp from zazzle.com featured a pic of the house.  To add to the detail, the envelopes were hand addressed on the front and each guest’s name and address were also hand lettered on the envelope flap.

I was thrilled to play a small part in setting the ambiance for this lovely ceremony.

Thanks so much and many blessings to Sally, Cavan and the girls!

DIY Scrapbooking Dessert Project

A long time friend is moving to one of my favorite cities… Austin, Texas!  So a fitting farewell with just the girls was in order.  The lovely Anne Holmes was hosting at her cool condo on the lake.  I offered to bring dessert to the buffet, knowing I had a simple yummy recipe from my friend Kim to try out…Key Lime Ice Cream Balls!

To create a fun fitting message, I got out my calligraphy pen and brush and turned to my scrapbook supplies. Here’s the DYI instructions and dessert recipe at the end:

diy paper, diy stationery, diy party, diy dessert

Step 1: Gather Supplies. Any colorful scraps of solid and patterned paper, circular cutting system with templates and blade cartridges ( I used Creative Memories), cutting mat, glue stick, glue gun and toothpicks.

calligraphy, diy stationery, diy paper project, diy dessert

Step 2: Decide on a message.  Cut larger 2 1/2″ circles out of pattern or solid paper and smaller 2″ circles out of solid paper. Make sure you have enough to spell the words you need.

Step 3: Attach the smaller paper circles to the larger ones with a glue stick.

Step 4: Letter on circles to create the words needed.  I used a pointed calligraphy pen and black ink.  You can letter with a black marker in simple handwriting.  Attach toothpicks to backs of circles using a glue gun.

calligraphy, calligraphy on envelope, diy paper project, diy dessert, diy stationery, hand lettering, cursive lettering

For the envelope, I just happen to have a blank card with colored dots in my stationery collection. It came with a see through velum envelope.  I lettered the names and ampersand using a round lettering brush and three colors of gouache paint. Again, non-calligraphers, just use markers in different colors.

I also happened to have polka dot wrapping paper that I used to cover a cookie sheet.  I used this as the base to set the ice cream balls on.

diy dessert, diy stationery, diy paper project, ice cream balls

Before presenting the dessert to Claudia, the ice cream balls were placed on the tray, then the letters placed in the balls to spell out the message “All the best Claudia & Dan…Your FB girls”.

A list of recommended Austin restaurants was included inside the card.  As a gift, they will pick out the ones they’d like to try and a gift certificate will be sent to them in the mail.

Here’s a shout out to all the FB girls who attended this lovely send off : Shelley, Teresa, Lori, Anne ( hostess), Carolyn, Sharon and Teri.

And here’s the recipe for the Key Lime Ice Cream Balls:

-Defrost one frozen Key Lime Pie

-Add 1/2 gallon of vanilla ice cream- mix together and freeze in covered bowl

-Scoop balls of mix and dip in finely chopped macadamia nuts and toasted coconut

-Place in aluminum cupcake holders

-Refreeze, then serve.

Enjoy!
