Medical School Graduation Party Decor

Medical School Graduation Party, Lettering Art Studio, creative invitation

About a month ago I showed you these unique invitations I designed for a Medical School Graduation.  Now I am excited to show you the various things I created for the graduation weekend festivities.

Medical School Graduation Party, Lettering Art Studio, creative invitationThis adorable picture of the graduate, playing doctor as a child, appropriately announces “The Doctor will see you now”.  How cute is he!

Medical School Graduation Party, Lettering Art Studio, creative invitationI designed the dinner menu and favor tag with the same cute picture.  Guests were given an apple as a favor with a tag saying “An apple a day keeps the Doctor away!”.  Good advice!

Medical School Graduation Party, Lettering Art Studio, creative invitationA current day picture of the graduate (even cuter still :P ) in his doctor finery was used for the cover of the weekend’s itinerary. I also printed guest’s names onto these tent name cards.

I designed the itinerary to look like a medical chart, so the pages flipped up instead of across. Doctor related illustrations decorated the schedule and added a whimsical design.

The itinerary was included in the out of town guest bags along with typical goodies.  I created a crisp white label with text in matching blue and a yellow border. (See pic at top)

I love when I have the opportunity to create unique touches for client’s events.  I created a special personalized Christmas ornament to commemorate this wonderful achievement.  I enjoyed every step of this project and hope the weekend went fabulously!

Congratulations Doctor Alex!

Just a quick note to let you know that my new website and blog will be going live soon!  ( in a matter of days)  Stay tuned.

New Lettering Art Studio Website coming soon!

I’m so excited about my new website.  I’m hoping to go live with it at the end of the week!  Here’s a quick pic to show you my new look.

Lettering Art Studio

It’s still a work in progress.  It’s been a challenge to work on it during wedding season, but it will be worth it when it’s all finished.

The best part is that my blog will now be a part of my website so you can check out both at the same time.  This will mean that my current subscribers will have to re-subscribe.  So I hope you’ll stick with me:)

I’ll have a give away to share.  And I’ll be introducing a DIY Wedding section where I will be posting pics of ideas for invitations, menus, programs and other wedding signage.  I’ll also be sharing pics from DIY brides and other crafters who have used my font to create items for their wedding and other events.

If you have any pics to share, please send them to me at debi@letteringartstudio.com.

Thanks for reading my posts and sharing your thoughts with me.  I hope you’ll continue to enjoy what I have to share.

Best!

Medical School Graduation Party Invites

A favorite client of mine who loves to throw festive parties asked me to design a unique invitation for her son’s medical school graduation.  She’s seen pics of some of the boxed invites on this blog and was interested in having me create something similar.

She found a bottled prescription invitation online that she wanted to include. After a few measurements, it was determined that a cookie from It’s a Mary Cake would be the perfect accompaniment — in the shape of a medical scrub no less!  Yellow shredded paper padded the box and kept the cookie from breaking.

To stay on theme, I hand painted the box with a stethoscope that curved around the edges and ended up appropriately with a heart. I then hand lettered the mailing addresses in dark blue to match the theme.

The ‘prescriptions’  from Hello Cupcake added a special touch and included a list of side effects:  continuous laughter, excessive smiling and wonderful memories.  How cute is that?

Texas ABC’s book in Calligraphy

I had the pleasure of contributing to Texas ABC’s A Book of All Things Texas that was assembled by Kaligrafos, The Dallas Calligraphy Society (of which I am a member).  Now that the book is available for purchase, I would love to give you a preview of the finished pages.

Cover of "Texas ABC's"

Each letter in this adorable book was created by a different member of the society and is paired with an illustration of something related to Texas.

Pages A and B

Anita Hofmeister’s ‘A’ is crowned in a cowboy hat and stands for Texas’ state animal, the armadillo.

Representing Texas’ shoe of choice is Catherine Burkhard’s ‘B’ for boot.

Pages G and H

I was excited to created the letter ‘G’.  I used a flourished style in multi-colors and paired it with a funky acoustic guitar.

The page across from mine belongs to Donna Sabolovic’s ‘H’orned toad.

Pages Q and R

The feathered ‘Q’ was illustrated by Betty Barna and represents quills.

The red bandana ‘R’, done by Randy Stewart, corresponds to a favorite Texas activity — Rodeo.

Pages U and V

The letter ‘U’, by Sherry Barber, represents popular Texas’ Universities, such as SMU, UT, A&M, Texas Tech, and BU.

The sunset colored ‘V’, lettered by Thomas Burns, is for vaquero (Cowboy in Spanish).

Pages W and X

June Baty’s ‘W’ is paired with an ink illustration of a windmill and Louise Weber’s ‘X’ marks the spot for Dallas on a red Texas.

Pages Y and Z

On the last pages, Brenda Burns’ ‘Y’ is for a lovely yellow rose and the slashed ‘Z’ for Zorro was illustrated by Carol Scott.  All of the words inside the book were lettered by Betty Barna.

Kaligrafos, The Dallas Calligraphy Society is a non-profit organization that promotes calligraphy and related arts.  This book is a great way to introduce children to the arts and it would also make a great gift for a Texas friend. Check out their website if you would like to purchase the book or find out more about Kaligrafos.

Inspiring affirmation in Calligraphy

calligraphy, hand lettering, pointed pen lettering, script lettering, cursive font, wedding font, Affirmation by Michael Rawls

Everyone has those days.  You’re just not feeling like things are happening.  You’re working hard. You’re trying your best.  Maybe it’s an old fear coming up telling you you’re not good enough.  Maybe you’re just working so hard you can’t see the forest for the trees. Or maybe your just like everyone else who is trying to accomplish something day by day, step by step and it just feels like you’re spinning your wheels. Whether you’re a parent, working for a company or self-employed like me, everyone has those days.

In fact, I’ve had several of them recently.  And I was encouraged and inspired by the lovely and talented, calligrapher and teacher, Kathy Milici who continually posts upbeat, positive messages on Facebook.  She posted this one this morning.  And as a thank you to her I thought I’d pass it on. So I got out my trusty pen and lettered it especially for you.

Thank you for subscribing to or reading my blog.  Thank you for all the positive comments and feedback you share with me.  Thanks for being there.  It means a lot to know that people are interested in what I’m doing as I sit in my studio plugging away :) This is a small gift from me to you.

You can download  and print a PDF of the affirmation here : Affirmation

Use it when you’re having one of those days or send it to someone else who is.

We’re all trying to do the best we can with what we’ve got.  And sometimes we need encouragement to keep doing that.

Enjoy your day!

Best,

Debi

“ONE to grow on” themed Birthday Party Decorations

A regular client, who always comes to me with fun and creative ideas, asked me to make some signs for her one-year-old’s birthday party.  The adorable party theme was “ONE to grow on”. So everything was centered around the word “ONE” and things that have to do with growing and nature: earth, grass, sky, sun, and birds.

I took a whimsical approach to the signs, playing on the names she gave the food items.  Bright colors were a must.

The food signs included: Piggies in a Blanket (my personal favorite), Make your own Frito Pie Bar, and We Wheelie Wheelie Love You Pinwheels. Sweets included: wONEderful Texas Sheetcake, sONEy Days Lemon Bars, Reach for the Skies Lollies, and cupcakes in four different flavors.  Personalized name tags were attached to the children’s party favors while the adults received a box of chocolate with ‘a’ special tag with the birthday girl’s initial.

This was a fun project.  All of these bright, happy colors really livened up my studio and the birthday party!

Bellucia Calligraphy font on Chartula Laser Cut invitations

It’s always so exciting to see how an invitation designer has used my Beluccia font.  Charlotte of Chartula Studio, whose specialty is laser cut invitations, sent me pics of these beautiful invitations all the way from the UK!

Fresh from the Designer Wedding show are these dreamy new colourful versions of her ‘A Little Lace‘ laser cut invitation.

They’re silk screen printed in gold ink on delicious new ‘Eau de Nil’ and ‘Mint Cream’ cards as well as Ebony, Black, Pristine White, Vintage Peach, Mist and Candy Pink.  The swirls and twirls of Belluccia tease their way across the page. Teamed with these beautiful colors and intricate laser cut design, I think this latest design will be a hit world wide!

Charlotte’s also just finished designing a range of greetings cards for Roger la Borde incorporating Belluccia.  They will be launched in the UK in January. Can’t wait to share those with you as well!

Do take a peek at more of her beautiful designs, on her website or blog:  Chartula Studio blog .

“Blowout” Boxed Birthday Invitations

You know the saying “thinking out of the box”?  Well I like to say “think in the box”.   So when one of my favorite clients called with details of her daughter’s “blowout” birthday party at drybar in Dallas, I knew exactly what was going “in the box”.  Yet another fabulous decorated cookie from It’s a Mary Cake !

Blow dryer cookie by It's a Mary Cake!

The girls will be getting their hair washed and styled (aka  the “blowout”) while munching on party treats.  So of course, Mary came up with a darling blow dryer cookie in the drybar colors of bright yellow and charcoal.

Boxed Blowout Birthday Invitation

The invitation, printed in theme colors, was slipped into a ribbon belly band that wrapped around the fabric covered padding.  It was then placed on top, allowing protection for the cookie.  Once the paper invitation was slipped out, the full party details were disclosed.

Close up of Invitation Box with blow dryer illustration

It was so much fun to continue the theme by painting a blow dryer on the box.  The 3 dimension allows for more fun details…extending the cord on one side and “blown air” down the other.  The yellow brush lettering on charcoal made a nice pop!

I’ll be creating themed favors to match and will post those in an upcoming font. Birthday parties are so much fun!

Calligraphy font on Cute Door Hangers

Doorhangers from "Thoughtfully Designed" on Etsy

Aren’t these darling? Just received this pic from Stephanie Tunches of the Vintage Modern Bride .  I created the bride and groom names ( Stephanie and Mathew) in my Belluccia font stlye (available at  myfonts.com ) for use with their December 3 wedding projects.  She sent the artwork to Laura at Thoughtfully Designed .  Laura added the names to make these personalized door hangers!  Check out Laura’s other wedding items including memorial candles and lockets.

If you are in the DIY mode, this project would be a fairly simple one.  Just create the artwork on the computer.  (The Belluccia font family also includes flourishes and ornaments, including a bridal dress, black tie and Just Married car, that would work well for a project like this.)  Print on cardstock. Cut a circle with a large hole puncher and a slit so that it can easily slide on and off a doorknob. Then use a corner cutter to create the rounded corners.

You could also create door hangers for your out of town guests that say  ” Shhh! Please do not disturb. We’ve been partying all night at the wedding of  Stephanie and Mathew!”  Don’t you just love fun little details like this?
