If you’ve been following the story of Dom loves Mary, we are finally at the honeymoon. If not, you can go back and read about Mary, Dom , their wedding and reception.
Today, some pics from Dom and Mary on their honeymoon.
The newlyweds headed south to Miami, Florida. I love the classic 1950′s suit Mary’s wearing in this picture. She was always stylish and loved to dress up for every occasion with coordinated jewelry, shoes and purse.
This picture of Dom has special meaning. He was a very “chill” guy. When he retired, he would spend a lot of time taking naps outside in his lawn chair, often with his face covered to keep out the light.
Because they lived on a corner lot, this scene was easily viewed by passers by. People he knew would honk and Dom, without taking the cover off his face, would raise his hand and wave.
He was like a “Sphinx” in the neighborhood
There weren’t a lot of photos from their honeymoon. This is the only shot I could find with both of them in the picture. I love it because of the way Mary is jumping into the pool while Dom waits for her. To me, it represents them “taking the plunge” in marriage.
It might seem odd to post this picture with the top of Dom’s head cut off in the photo. But it makes me giggle to see that even then, as it was throughout her life, Mary could never take a photo that included the person’s full head!
Dom and Mary would eventually make a routine, especially after Dom’s retirement from the Post Office, of spending the winter in Florida. They’d come to Dallas to be with us at Christmas then head off to their escape from the cold returning to Erie around April.
Tomorrow: DomLovesMary font: And Babies makes Four.
