Invitations by Foglio Press

I love what Sarah Sorrentino, of Foglio Press, did with my Belluccia font. The bold graphic use of my lettering in these invites and save the date beautifully highlights every curve.

The purple lettering on this save the date layered on top of a black and white photo is extremely eye catching.

The neutral color along with the pop of red on this wedding invite gives a simple, clean look.  The names in my cursive font combined with the contemporary styles used for the date and other wording creates a beautiful modern look . The flourish at the top, from the Belluccia font family, adds a nice touch.

Belluccia is used beautifully here to print the return address on the flap of the envelope.  This is an easy way to give envelopes a professional look.

Foglio is an Italian term for paper.  Sarah’s love of paper and stationery comes through in all of her designs.

Thanks Sarah for making my Belluccia shine!

Peacock Blue envelopes with white lettering

calligraphy, wedding calligraphy, hand lettering, cursive font, calligraphy font, script font, fancy font, lettering on evelopes, wedding envelopes, white lettering on blue envelopes, colorful postage stamps

I’m in love with the look of these colorful wedding invitation envelopes.  I hand-lettered using my Belluccia style in white ink at an angle with flourishes reaching off the edge of the envelope.  The high contrasting color combo makes the lettering really pop.  The actual color of the envelope is peacock-blue.  My client’s pic made them look more cobalt blue than peacock but the effect is the same.

The happy couple, D.D and Jackie, had the idea to use fun, bright stamps as a creative touch to the design.  I love the fleur-de-lis  printed label that was added to the back flap.  The combination of these vivid colors, hand lettering, and whimsical stamps creates a lively invitation that is sure to impress.

More to come from this lovely wedding– I will also be creating place cards for the June nuptials.

Happy Wedding D.D. and Jackie!

Sweet Calligraphy Wedding Invitation

I recently had the pleasure of working with a darling bride.  She wanted a unique wedding invitation for their small, intimate wedding.  Her young daughters were going to be a part of the ceremony with a small gathering of family and friends in her home. She wanted  the sweet nature of the ceremony reflected in the invitation that was to be hand delivered to each guest.wedding invitation, unique invitation, calligraphy, hand lettering, water color illustration, wedding calligraphy, boxed invitation

I chose a craft covered box over-layed with fabric lace and a beautiful shade of dusty rose ribbon. Her florist created a live flower boutonniere that was attached to the package before delivery.

It was an honor to not only work with her to design the look of the invitation but to create the wording as well.  Since it was all about home and family, I thought it fitting that the first thing the guest saw when they opened the box, were the words “Home is where the heart is.”  These were hand lettered on Arches 140 lb. paper to match the invitation, trimmed with more of the rose ribbon and secured to the inside of the lid.  A beautiful lace trimmed handkerchief  monogrammed with the letter of the guests last name was attached to the front.  ( Wish I had a pic of this!) A blush pink tag with the guests first name/s was then attached to the hankie.

To complete the suite, an RSVP card, also hand lettered, was tied with matching rose ribbon to a hand made envelope ( I now know how to make envelope glue!).  A custom stamp from zazzle.com featured a pic of the house.  To add to the detail, the envelopes were hand addressed on the front and each guest’s name and address were also hand lettered on the envelope flap.

I was thrilled to play a small part in setting the ambiance for this lovely ceremony.

Thanks so much and many blessings to Sally, Cavan and the girls!

DIY Scrapbooking Dessert Project

A long time friend is moving to one of my favorite cities… Austin, Texas!  So a fitting farewell with just the girls was in order.  The lovely Anne Holmes was hosting at her cool condo on the lake.  I offered to bring dessert to the buffet, knowing I had a simple yummy recipe from my friend Kim to try out…Key Lime Ice Cream Balls!

To create a fun fitting message, I got out my calligraphy pen and brush and turned to my scrapbook supplies. Here’s the DYI instructions and dessert recipe at the end:

diy paper, diy stationery, diy party, diy dessert

Step 1: Gather Supplies. Any colorful scraps of solid and patterned paper, circular cutting system with templates and blade cartridges ( I used Creative Memories), cutting mat, glue stick, glue gun and toothpicks.

Step 2: Decide on a message.  Cut larger 2 1/2″ circles out of pattern or solid paper and smaller 2″ circles out of solid paper. Make sure you have enough to spell the words you need.

Step 3: Attach the smaller paper circles to the larger ones with a glue stick.

Step 4: Letter on circles to create the words needed.  I used a pointed calligraphy pen and black ink.  You can letter with a black marker in simple handwriting.  Attach toothpicks to backs of circles using a glue gun.

calligraphy, calligraphy on envelope, diy paper project, diy dessert, diy stationery, hand lettering, cursive lettering

For the envelope, I just happen to have a blank card with colored dots in my stationery collection. It came with a see through velum envelope.  I lettered the names and ampersand using a round lettering brush and three colors of gouache paint. Again, non-calligraphers, just use markers in different colors.

I also happened to have polka dot wrapping paper that I used to cover a cookie sheet.  I used this as the base to set the ice cream balls on.

diy dessert, diy stationery, diy paper project, ice cream balls

Before presenting the dessert to Claudia, the ice cream balls were placed on the tray, then the letters placed in the balls to spell out the message “All the best Claudia & Dan…Your FB girls”.

A list of recommended Austin restaurants was included inside the card.  As a gift, they will pick out the ones they’d like to try and a gift certificate will be sent to them in the mail.

Here’s a shout out to all the FB girls who attended this lovely send off : Shelley, Teresa, Lori, Anne ( hostess), Carolyn, Sharon and Teri.

And here’s the recipe for the Key Lime Ice Cream Balls:

-Defrost one frozen Key Lime Pie

-Add 1/2 gallon of vanilla ice cream- mix together and freeze in covered bowl

-Scoop balls of mix and dip in finely chopped macadamia nuts and toasted coconut

-Place in aluminum cupcake holders

-Refreeze, then serve.

Enjoy!

Envelopements Save the Date with Calligraphy Font

Envelopments Save the Date featuring Belluccia font

I previously posted about the creative ways the Trellis Collection by Envelopments used my cursive font, Belluccia. And here’s a perfect example of a Save the Date created for real life bride and groom Katie and Pierce.

I just love the colors, layout and the way the names, in Belluccia, are angled and combined with the simpler block font.  The envelope uses the same two fonts and gorgeous color with matching stamp to boot.  This combo creates a good  balance between the flourished lines of the calligraphy font with the simpler lines of the block style.

This coordinated set was created by Samantha at Papyrus in Willowbend Mall in Plano, Texas.  Check out the whole Trellis Collection for more clever ideas.

All the best to the future Mr. and Mrs. Bradford!

Cursive font Belluccia on Wedding Invitation

Loved finding this wedding invitation created by Simply Luxe that features my cursive font Belluccia.  My favorite part is seeing how she used the specially designed “R” from an “RSVP” I created as a glyph then added the rest of the letters in lower case.  I also like the way the flourishes were used on either side of the word “to” as well as the choice of the “o” with the extended loop.  Minute details to some, but to me it’s all in the details!

When hand lettering won’t fit into your budget, my cursive font can also be used to address envelopes on the computer.  Simply Luxe made a great choice to keep the lettering on the envelope simple and clean by using the Standard version.  Belluccia Pro contains all four versions of the font meant for mixing and matching. Contextual, Swashes and Stylistic contain the more flourished versions of the letters.  So they are best intertwined with the Standard version to give a unique custom calligraphic look without being too much.  There is an art to creating that look and Simply Luxe did a great job with it.

DIY Wedding Invitation with Cursive Font

DIY Wedding InvitationI had the pleasure of creating these invitations for the wedding of a much adored family friend.  I love the beautiful spring color combination of amethyst and mint. They were created using readily available products — making it the perfect DIY Wedding Invitation for any DIY bride to tackle!   The chosen items: pouches, papers, and envelopes in a shimmer finish are all from Marsupial papers. They are available online or you can check their website for a dealer near you.

DIY Wedding InvitationThe pouch (in Marsupial’s amethyst color) holds the wedding invitation, reception card, accommodations, and RSVP postcard.  All of the wedding suite pieces were designed using my cursive font, Belluccia, along with the font Big Caslon. The envelope (in mint) was  addressed in the Belluccia hand lettering style, and the return address was printed in the font. If hand lettering by a calligrapher is not in your budget, a similar effect could be achieved by using the font and your computer to print the addresses on the envelopes.   I also utilized the flourishes, ornaments, and borders from the Belluccia font family.

The wedding invitation was printed on Marsupial’s Tobacco Magnolia paper.  I love the muted contrast this leaf pattern creates against the mint green and amethyst paper.  A matching ribbon adds detail to the card. The “love” stamp on the “Reply” postcard with purple flowers provided a great pop of color.

DIY Wedding InvitationThe individual reception card and postcard were printed on magnolia colored paper.

The finished product was lovingly assembled by the bride, Mother of the Bride and one of the bridesmaids.

The combination of a beautiful wedding font, quality paper products, and time ( and friends!)  to construct and assemble allows any DIY bride the opportunity to create a unique, custom wedding invitation.

Another way to save on cost is to take advantage of the convenience provided by a service like Kinkos. Their self-serve color copiers will easily print on thick shimmer paper like the ones used for this invitation.

Birch Wedding Table Holders with cards in Calligraphy

Table signs named after favorite restaurants

I love the trend of naming your wedding reception tables after things or places that are special to the bride and groom.  In this case, it’s restaurants!

Birch Table Holders with Names in Calligraphy

The birch pieces with slits for cards can be ordered online.  Here are two resources I found:  Floral Accents on Etsy   and Vermont Brand Company on Etsy

I created the cards with Cardstock and hand lettered them in dark brown. If you want to DIY, you could use my calligraphy font, Belluccia, to print on the cards and place cards.

Escort Cards and Envelopes

This particular client chose to use escort cards and envelopes. They were created in the matching lettering style.  One advantage of using escort cards is the flexibility to be able to change the guest seating arrangement up to the very last minute.  Just replace the current card in the envelope with the new table assignment card.
